Voidokilia Beach

The famous omega-shaped bay just 8 km from the property. With its turquoise waters and fine sand protected by Natura 2000, it is one of the most iconic beaches in the Peloponnese, perfect for an unforgettable day.

Voidokilia Beach

Voidokilia is the beach you see in every photograph of Messinia, and for once the photograph does not exaggerate: the bay traces an almost perfect curve, so regular that it is compared to the Greek letter omega. The sand is very fine, the water shallow and turquoise for dozens of metres, and the seabed slopes so gently that it is suitable even if you are bringing children.

This stretch of coast is protected by the Natura 2000 network: behind the beach lie the dunes and the lagoon, and that is what has spared it from development. There are no beach clubs and no promenade: you arrive, park and walk on the sand. It goes without saying that you should bring your own umbrella, sun loungers and water, and the house has them.

It is eight kilometres from the house: an easy drive, and the kind of place that is at its best early in the morning or in the late afternoon, when the light drops over the curve of the bay and the beach empties.

Practical tips

  • The best light is early in the morning and in the last hour before sunset: in the middle of a summer day the beach is exposed, with no natural shade.
  • There are no facilities on the beach: umbrellas, sun loungers and beach gear are available to guests at the house.
  • This is a protected area: the dunes behind the beach may only be crossed on the marked paths.
